All have serviceable wheelsets.
57/0s, 57/3s and both types of 57/6 all share many common components so the ex DRS 57/0s are a very valuable source of parts for anyone running a 57 regardless of subclass.
57001 was never an Advenza/Cotswold loco and 57005 doesn’t have a cracked block, it does however have a knackered auxiliary generator which would be very expensive to repair so has been used as a Xmas tree to keep all of the other 57s going.

I dont suppose you or anybody else would be able to help me with a general price range of a Wheelset/Bogie Overhaul or a full locomotive repaint please? I’m sorry but it kind of ties in with the subject (Kind of), it’s just something I’m very interested in finding out. Apparently the wheelset/Bogie overhauls are harder to do nowadays because there’s very few specialists that have the knowledge and experience to actually do them. Thanks very much
Sorry to ask but would you happen to be able to advice on a general price range (or a guess) on how much a wheelset/Bogie overhaul would cost please? Apparently it’s getting harder to find specialists with the experience and knowledge needed. I know Engines can be very expensive from the Class 37 Groups interview in Railways illustrated in which they were quoted £40K and actually spent around £150K. Also would you be able to take a guess on cost or repainting a locomotive? This is actually a very shrewd business move, to those who are denigrating it.
DRS sells 10 assets, which it needs to be able to fulfil RHTT contracts (other firms don’t have engines that light / suitable axle load for it) and then the buyers have to give them back, with a guaranteed availability rate, all maintenance done, and probably with heavy penalty clauses.
The public sector announces it has secured an upfront cash sum in the sale of assets, has secured “efficiency savings” in reducing spare part holdings, and leaving their maintenance facilities open for their own modern gear, and can, in future, say it doesn’t want them.
It’s also clearly keeping its hand in for any charter work by keeping the 37/4s explicitly.
I would probably have done this if I were them. Huge things like new wheelsets, reconditioned power units and what not are all the new owners’ problem.
