Daughter is travelling back to London today on the return portion of a London Euston to Crewe Super Off Peak Return WMR + LNR Only. She's booked on the 20:38 but would like to go earlier. I can't see which trains this is valid on - can anyone help - LMR website is confusing in its wording.

This fare https://www.brfares.com/!faredetail...pert=on&flow=2&multi=0&fare=10&rte=42&tkt=SVR shows the restriction code SK and there are no restrictions on Saturdays. If this is the correct ticket, your daughter can travel on any WMR train later today. (This is probably not the right ticket, see below).

If it's this one https://www.brfares.com/!faredetail...pert=on&flow=2&multi=0&fare=11&rte=42&tkt=OPR
then it's not so simple, not valid before 19:01 from Crewe. She could get the 19:33 and change at Rugby or Northampton.

If it's the Super Off-Peak Return, costing £36 (£23.75 with a Railcard), which your daughter holds then the restriction is code LF.

Therefore she could take the 14:33 or 15:33 - after that the next valid train would be the 19:33 changing at Rugby or Northampton. However, due to the connection time at Rugby/Northampton and the fact that you're going via Northampton and stopping more, this itinerary only gets her into Euston 26 mins before the arrival of the 20:38. It's a frustrating gap in the otherwise hourly service.

The alternative would be to pay the excess to the Off-Peak Return, which would permit travel on any service. The excess would be £10.50, or £6.90 with a Railcard. This excess could be paid on the train (without penalty) if your daughter so wishes.

Cheers - that's very limiting - only 2 direct trains she can really get - 17:33 and pay the access or stick with the 20:38. I suppose if she went on an Avanti service it would require a new ticket.

Travel time is restricted due to the excellent price... however it's only about a seven to ten quid (ish) excess fare (ie upgrade to LNR off peak return) iirc to travel in that 4-7pm window.
