Good morning people

Just had a request from a lady I work with for pricing for tickets on Monday 22nd September. She needs two tickets from Darlington to Penzance and they need to be open returns due to a job that could overrun. I have had a quick look myself but it seemed a bit steep to me so are there any tricks that people could find to get it down?

Cheers

You can't get Open returns any more. Will an Off Peak return not do? It is unrestricted after 5am.

If she is unsure of the outward date, then yes you used to be able to use an Open return and leave after the first date, but now you just have to buy it on the date of travel.

The outward date is definetely Monday the 22nd, its just the return leg that they are unsure about.

Buy an off-peak return then.
Straight out Off-Peak Return is £154.
Splitting your ticket at Birmingham New Street and Cheltenham Spa brings it down to £148.40 and all trains at the moment stop at both of them so all perfectly fine.

Normally, as mentioned above, I would suggest splitting the tickets
Darlington - Biirmingham - Penzance
Darlington - Birmingham - Bristol -Penzance

You could also consider travelling via London outward, and then one of the above on the return route
By using AP tickets on the outward journey and off peak singles on the return

Its actually cheaper to split Cheltenham Spa for pretty much any ticket, splitting Birmingham costs you more money.
