hello. I am a railroad fanatic living in Daegu Metropolitan City, Korea.

While studying machinery, I also watch railroad cars.

I'm writing this because I have a question while watching Flickr.

I wrote a post before, but I didn't get an answer, so I'd like to ask again.

1. ECR French dispatch class 66 locomotive question

* https://www.flickr.com/photos/kitma...CHY7J-2nwZc77-2nvQ6vc-2nEvepJ-2nsZ4Ve-2ni5Tmy

I searched Toton TMD on the Flickr site and saw a picture of a class 66 locomotive.

It has been confirmed that some locomotives are being repaired for use again in the UK.

I would like to know if these locomotives are no longer used in France.

Looking at the picture, I confirmed that the LED headlights were replaced and the exterior was newly painted.

And in the case of locomotives dispatched to France, I would like to know if they are replaced with new signaling equipment.

2. 66230 related questions.

I happened to see a recent picture of the 66230 locomotive on the same site.

I saw a picture taken inside Toton TMD.

* https://www.flickr.com/photos/adamm...ufW5A-2m35e1z-2jfjHe7-2jdwfAM-2jdtfSV-2j5W2bE

I removed the headlights and buffers, but is this locomotive scrapped?

I asked a question before, but I read that it is impossible to return to the main line.

And there is no reply even when I reply to the DB Cargo UK site email, so I am writing again because I want to know the exact contents.

For reference, I do not receive a good response because I am using a Korean account email.

It was written in Korean grammar and translated into English with Google Translate, so please forgive me for any mistakes.

A number of DB 66s are used in France.

A few of them have been returned to the UK.

66 230 is one of those.

It is not scrapped, just stored.

66230 was not one of those returned from France. It was damaged in a collision with a road vehicle at Dollands Moor back in 2018 (the RAIB accident report can be found here: https://assets.publishing.service.g.../file/920948/R052019_190625_Dollands_Moor.pdf). It is currently stored at Toton - in theory it is probably repairable, but with DB having a Class 66 surplus it's not been required to repair it.

66230 isn't one of the ones that was in France. It was involved in an accident at Dollands Moor yard in 2018. One of the cabs has fire damage - for quite a while when it was at Toton that cab was covered with a blue tarpaulin. There's a RAIB report here: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/...utility-vehicle-at-dollands-moor-freight-yard.

So, is this locomotive currently under repair?

I recently saw 66230 photos.

Thought I'd reuse this thread for another DB 66 related question.
Anyone happen to know how many are left in EWS livery? I reckon there is at least one.
If so, would anyone happen to have the numbers for these units?
Thank you.

My bold. There are more than that! I watch Leslie Gilpin’s videos of Carlisle and environs. In the first few minutes of the last one (2 days ago) 66186 is seen pulling an engineering train. There seem to be at least half a dozen usual suspects in EWS livery floating in and out of Carlisle on his videos

Watching some of his other videos now too. Looks like 66186, 66119, 66139 (EWS lettering removed) just from the most recent and one other video from within the past month. A lot more than I expected - I reckoned the vast majority would be in DB red by now from what I've observed with other fleets in the UK.
EDIT: Adding on from a few other videos just to keep a list here people can add to. 66169, 66080 (EWS lettering removed), 66015,

There are over 80 class 66s remaining in EWS livery in this country - So around half of the UK based DB fleet of 164 locos. A number have had their EWS branding removed, and DB logos added in some instances.

I don't believe that any of the 55 Euro Cargo Rail locos in use in France have been repainted out of their original base livery, either, though at least 6 of the 15 locos in Poland have received DB livery.

Thank you! Much more common than I thought. I originally was planning on going out of the way specifically to photograph one when I'm in the UK in June, but it looks like there's a good chance I can see one just by seeing a DB Cargo working with a 66.

No problem, and yes in my experience from my travels EWS liveried 66s are at least as prevalent as DB liveried ones - Though it's a smaller number of the total that still retain EWS lettering and logos.
