Afternoon all.

I hope everyone is well? Now that Ian Allan has closed its Manchester book store I am now at a loss of a decent transport bookstore, as their London branch is a little to far away. I was therefore wondering if anyone knows of some good transport stockists in the north of England? I know Amazon and Ian Allan's online outlets are available, I did enjoy looking at other things which I may not have necessarily gone for in the first place. Hope someone knows somewhere.

Kind regards.

QS.

Second hand bookshops may be your main option instead.

I ordered the Appletons Guide that Portillo is using for his most recent series. Hardback book, will be delivered on day of release, £6

Embsay and Bolton Abbey railway has a good bookshop at Embsay station. There is a smaller bookshop on the Keighley and Worth Valley line - not certain if it's at Haworth or Oxenhope, as it's some while since I've been there.

Nick Tozer runs a bookshop in Paddock, Huddersfield, with limited opening (3 days/week). There's a bookshop at Grosmont near the NYMR station. There is Bill Hudson Books at Matlock Station. Not clear from their website, but the East Lancs railway/Bury Transport Museum may sell books?

Hope this is of help,
John Webb

There's Martin Bott booksellers in Horwich, I believe they stock a lot of Oakwood press titles

Now moved to Felixstowe I believe. Can't speak highly enough of them - an excellent shop, although more tailored to secondhand rather than new.

Ian Allan in London has gone downhill recently in my view. Don't seem to have such a good selection as in the past, and they seem to have got a little careless which means books are quite often in the wrong place or damaged. It doesn't help that some people use it as a reading facility so if you go to buy a book there's a high chance it's already been roughly handled. The place can be a freak show at times too.

Haworth, but Embsay is or used to be better. Bury ELR has plenty of books.

Hello there guys.

Thanks for all your help. It's most appreciated. I think it's either a run down to Birmingham or London for me this week. Ian Allen London was my first every IA bookstore. As it's been over ten years since I have been, I think it would be nice to pop in again before that closes!

Kind regards.
