Mixed emotions, great to see the Deltic working on the main line but not with troublesome trucks.

FWIW I would like to see a main line permitted Deltic temporarily painted up in Electric Blue with cats whiskers similar to the original, I am sure it would be a cost effective project with railtours, trips to preservation railways, photo charters, etc etc

Yeh know what you mean, bit like Concord (if it had been preserved) hired into the Ryan Air Manchester to Dublin or an Aston Martin DB5 towing a trailer to the tip

Nothing wrong with a ballast train, more interesting to look at than a set of Mk1's full of spotters

The problem with that idea is the difference in front ends between the prototype and production Deltics, and the need for a yellow warning panel - I fear it would be a pretty bizarre looking hybrid.

You're probably right Chris, mind you they let Kettles run without the yellow panel so it may be possible.

When i was spotting probably in the late 70s I drove a Class 55 backwards at York towards the large bridge whilst the driver looked back for the ground signals.
Oh and no, I didn't work on the railways then.
