Hiya!
Gonna go up to York with a friend tomorrow and I have a Disabled Persons Railcard, I just wanted to ask/check if the person I can take with me has to be a carer or can it just be anyone (adult ofc) that would get the discount and when purchasing my ticket I'd buy it for 2 people and that would be covered under my railcard right?

Just thought I'd check and make sure I'm allowed to do this XD

Yes. You can take yourself and any person of your choosing. Both of you get the discount. Obviously you must both travel together.
Of course, you can travel alone, but you can take another with you

Alright, thanks! Would I have to purchase two separate tickets or a ticket for 2 adults?

If purchasing at a ticket office, simply show them the railcard and ask for two adults with the railcard to... If buying online enter the disabled railcard and two adults and it will automatically apply the discount.
You'll get two tickets, both discounted, one for each person.

But don't let the other person travel independently of you at any stage. They'll be in trouble without you and your card.
