Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience of Tamworth (Staffordshire)?

We are looking to rent a house in the Tamworth area and are wondering if there are any parts of Tamworth that are best avoided?

Many thanks.

avoid glascote heath like the plague.

Parts of Fazley and Mile Oak are too close to Drayron Manor for comfort, if you are sensitive to loud noise from the events there.

Similarly, Hockley is close to the M42, which is always busy.

As always, check out the locale around the potential rented house beforehand, at different time of day. Those quiet neighbours may turn out to be very noisy on a Saturday night, or play annoying music on a sunny day, just when you want to sit in the garden and chill out.

I'd look for somewhere on the north side of Tamworth if it was me......

Or west as in Litchfield.

Lichfield has some proper dodgy areas too! I like the Dordon suggestion - seems ok there, some nice railway photographic opportunities there by the way too - but although the area is nice, it's a bit of a walk to the nearest station (Atherstone) for an almost non-existent train service.

Many thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, we have two limitations in that I can't drive so very much reliant on public transport, especially trains, as I prefer only to travel by bus when I have to. Also, we are on a very restrictive budget of around £400 to £450 per month.

We've been looking at Tamworth town centre close to the station, with the outskirts of Tamworth as a plan B, hence my question as my knowledge of Tamworth is limited to the centre.

More recently started to look at Lichfield as well but I know even less about Lichfield as I do Tamworth, but it looks like a nice enough place, although I expect rents in Lichfield to be more expensive than Tamworth.

One of the main things that attracts me to Lichfield is the regular service into Birmingham.

Thanks again.

Yes. Lichfield is bit "historic" what with the cathedral and being the home of Erasmus Darwin.
