Many of the main lines are almost becomming 24 hour during the olympics. I am aware of some stations with less than an hour between last arrival and first departure.

Indeed, we all got a brief last week telling us of an additional 0045 KX to Leeds arr just after 3,and in the morning a 0407 Leeds to KX i think it was. I think they were both calling all stations except Stevenage but i may be wrong.

Presumably in order to run an extra train northbound there needs to be an extra one southbound too?

Starting 28th July there is an 0110 VT to Wolverhampton arr 0305, but there doesn't seem to be an additional southbound departure unless they plan on running it back to London empty.

Anybody think this might be popular if it ran through to Edinburgh or beyond? I know I would use such a service rather than the sleeper. Into Edinburgh at around 0530 onto the bus and in my own bed for 0600ish.

It would give more options for people I should think but im not sure what it would do to the diagrams for the regular service

For a couple of weeks only, it'll be like the good old days of BR, running long distance Intercity (non-Sleeper) services through the night!

Good time for the hardcore enthusiast to do an ALR too. ;)

I understand the late departures from London to other cities but what is the purpose of the 0407 Leeds - Kings Cross?

Presumably in order to run an extra train northbound there needs to be an extra one southbound too?

Aye, what comes up must come down...

It's the one part of the Olympics that I'm looking forward to...

Will be interesting to see whether any of the temporary improvements (like later/earlier trains) will become permenant if the demand is seen to be there.

running the extras back empty means that the stations don't have to be open, there's no need to timetable specific stops and the trains can go straight to the depots.

Wonder what the EC First Class offerings will be on these services!

On the old Friday night services to the West Country they offered Weekend First upgrades often for free. Methinks that prob free stuff from the buffet is about it. I understand those services had the buffet open all night.
