On a very windy Saturday 29th January a group of forum members walked from Tanfield to Gateshead, including walking alongside the Tanfield Railway for part of the route.
Early on in the walk we walked through a gorge paralleling the railway line; due to high winds there had been some fallen trees along the route, which at this point looks almost impassable, but we did manage to get through:

A view of the historic Causey Arch (the oldest surviving single-arch railway bridge in the world, now converted to a footpath):

Just beyond the Arch is an old wagon at the site of the railway station:

Here the path is to the right of the railway line, which can be seen to the left of this picture (no trains were running this day):

Here the footpath crosses the line; after this point the path remains on the left of the line:
