Thinking about writing a bit of fiction and fell into this rabbit hole. How are EMR personnel operating out of Norwich diagrammed? I know they probably change at Nottingham, but what then? Norwich to Nottingham is 2.5 hours, so not enough time to do two round trips, so what do they do before heading back?
Monday to Fridays the Guards have 4 out and back diagrams, and 2 with a Leicester attached. Weekends they just do out and back turns with extended PNBs at Nottingham.
Drivers are the same, but don't pair up with the Guards for the Leicester, and aren't always paired with the Norwich guards in one direction. They also have an additional shed and ferry turn at night.
There are also route refresh diagrams for Peterborough to Leicester.
There are plans for Guards to sign Derby to increase their diagramming efficiency as its a relatively short additional route which can be done in less than an hour.
More interestingly, there were plans for Guards to sign Sheffield via Radford, Alfreton and Dronfield, they would work the 1256 Norwich to Sheffield PNB, then work the 1745 Sheffield to Norwich. This was when the 1547 (as was) Nottingham to Liverpool had additional calls at Irlam, Birchwood and Hunts Cross and so bust the break time at Liverpool. Covid kicked off, as did the threat of TPE taking the route beyond Nottingham, so it never happened, but it came very close.
They used to work other services so the depot "inefficiency" was caused somewhat by the split of Central Trains, as well as Covid which killed off their Worksop route knowledge which was then compounded by the timetable change which extended the round trip time on that route.
