Anyone happen to know, friend of mine is getting off at Euston tomorrow and going to catch a Thameslink service from St Pancras. Not the best with directions but I've said come out of Euston and go left and straight down Euston road (he'd get lost on the quieter alternative).

However, he has asked if he crosses over when he can see Kings Cross as St Pancras. Which entrance does he require for TL Platform A as I seem to recall reading on here if you go through the main station entrance there is a lot of walking involved to the TL platforms.

He asked if he is likely to have any problem using is PRIV boxes (protected staff) at St Pancras for TL and I have said no, because it is National Rail.

He has 40 minutes from Euston arrival to St Pancras departure. He's getting a TL to Littlehampton so likely to be busy although I have said it will fill up more when going through the core and London Bridge and I've told him about the declassified section.

Thanks guys.

Quiet route is the signed route and is more straightforward.

Turn left at Midland Rd if using Euston Road.

The quieter and shorter alternative is much the best for the Thameslink platforms - can't he use Google Maps or similar ?

If he must go down Euston Rd, I am not sure what you mean by the "main" entrance to St Pancras - if you mean up the slope and in by the Renaissance Hotel he will then be on the wrong level for Thameslink. Better to turn left down Midland Rd and go in via the entrance virtually next to the Thameslink (which is where he would go straight to if following the shorter/quieter route)

If he's going along the Euston Road, then turn left down Midland Road immediately before St Pancras (or short cut through the British Library courtyard) and walk on until you find the second entrance beyond the bus stops. That keeps you out of the retail area scrum.
BTW, isn't the short cut walking route signposted now?

I should have known someone would be quicker - must type faster!

He asked if he is likely to have any problem using is PRIV boxes (protected staff) at St Pancras for TL and I have said no, because it is National Rail.

He shouldn't have any issues provided his box is dated correctly (which goes without saying of course). He just needs to show his dated box and ID to one of the barrier staff who will then let him through.

I prefer out of Euston by Marks & Spencer, cross over at the lights, Doric Way past Roti King, Churchway (just a little cut-through path), cut through the estate past Somers Town Coffee House (which is actually a pub) - this is gated but the gates are never locked - then Dangoor Walk (past the back of the British Library and an almost inexplicable bit of wasteland). I quite like "small streets" hidden away in bustling London.

Slightly quicker than what that link gives you and a bit more pleasant in my view.

Thanks guys. I have passed on the above info to him and the details of the quieter route and the way to TL by Midland Road.

Only ever known him have problems with boxes if using it on the second day following a dated box.

Yes and that is the way I go but, I suggest, not suitable for someone who would "get lost" following the signed route in the link.

Yes, fair point, it took me a few goes to work out which estate to cut through, though this was mostly in the other direction (from St. P) where it's a little less visible.

I have given him the google map link Yorkie provided and told him it is also signed as well as Euston Road option so he can choose. I said that the former might be much quieter, quicker and gets him to the right end of the station for the TL platforms. It is hard to "get lost" going this way though given it is signed or is it quite easy?

I can't remember how good the signage is to be honest - but if they'd be concerned about getting lost in what is a *slightly* (but not massively) rough area of London just walking up the Euston Road is probably easier. It isn't *that* far.

This is my preferred walking route between Euston and St Pancras/Kings Cross. I've managed 8 minutes Euston - Kings Cross platform to platform before. It was mentioned on here that underneath the wasteland is the proposed site of the Crossrail 2 station.

Agreed for someone who would 'get lost' but I'd tell them to go via Phoenix Road and Brill Place. As you walk along Phoenix Road you'll see St Pancras ahead of you.

Ah. Interesting - cheers - that would explain it!
