Am wondering whether any Forums participants have seen this film. I'm very little of a filmgoer, but usually become dimly aware of what films are currently or recently around -- to best of knowledge, though, had never heard of this one before coming across a chance reference to it today. From the Wiki description -- while much of the action takes place on trains, the Darjeeling 2ft gauge line does not seem to be directly involved. I learn that it's an American production, released 2007 -- maybe it's never made it to this side of the Atlantic? (Frankly, the Wiki account suggests to me that the thing is basically a load of drivel; but perhaps I misjudge.)

The film received generally favorable reviews from critics. As of April 2015, on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, 68% of critics gave the film positive reviews, based on 188 reviews, with a consensus among critics that the film "will satisfy Wes Anderson fans."[8] On Metacritic, the film had an average score of 67 out of 100, based on 35 reviews.[9] The film has a rating of 7.2 out of 10 on the Internet Movie Database.

I think you misjudge.

We've seen it and it's actually quite good, this was a while ago now and I seem to remember that it was quite poignant in places and the filming was good.
Worth a watch I'd say although I'm no Barry Norman.

Thanks, folks -- so the film is known in Britain. My unfavourable reaction came from the Wiki summary of the film's events, from which it appeared to me complicated, and pretty silly; but summarising in that way, would probably give the same kind of impression of a fair few classics of cinematic art.

It's a Wes Anderson film. You should take a look at his IMDB page.

I haven't seen the film but I've seen a couple of his others so I would expect something in the same distinct style. Grand Budapest Hotel is an incredible film.
