Is it possible to search for cheap advances based on the price of the ticket, i.e. if I want to travel from A to B, the exact date and time don't matter, but I want to get the cheapest possible fare, and I know the cheapest advance ticket is say £15, is there any website that will show me all the trains and dates on which the £15 ticket is available?

Many of the booking engines either online or on an app will give you a list of prices and you can search from there, i can't quite remember how to do it but it IS possible and someone else here will know how to. Often its about being "flexible" with your times.

Afraid not. NRS is so poorly designed / capacity constrained that there is a limit (5 to 10 generally - this is set by RSP) to the number of services a website is allowed to query. Websites are not allowed to query the (possibly) thousands of services you'd need to to get the answer to your question.

The nearest thing is Trainline's best fare finder, which uses cached (and, therefore, often out of date) fares found by all its users. A sort of crowdsourcing.

The silver lining is that the replacement for NRS, due by the end of 2018, will get rid of this problem.

I have a similar query to this...

Are there any website that let you find the cheapest advance fares to any destination? I'm thinking of taking a holiday and thought I'd see where's the cheapest place to get to within a date range.

You can do something like this with SkyScanner for flights - you pick your departure airport and it shows you the cheapest places you can fly to from that airport.
