Doncaster would probably be the best option, Wakefield Kirkgate/Castleford get a bit but they aren’t great stations to spend a long time at.Hi all
Going to leeds next Friday, for a few hours but wanting to break my day up trying to see some freight trains, any advice on which local stations are worth catching a train from leeds to?
Thanks in advance
When you say a walk, east junction where to? A bridge for example?Leeds is mostly skipped by freight.
Woodlesford - for all the Stourton freightliners and S&C stone. 12 freights yesterday between 6am and 8pm. Nearest location to Leeds itself.
Wakefield Kirkgate or Mirfield for Calder Valley and Standedge route freight - Drax pellets, bins and others. 11 yesterday
At one time, Moorthorpe used to be good when there was a steel industry as it connected Teesside to South Wales - only 4 freights yesterday.
Knottingley for Drax + depot to see. 19 workings yesterday at the east junction which is a walk from the station.
Sad decline from the 80s for freight - only the containers have kept it going.
Yes, if you want to see things, the road overbridge by the depot entrance, or the road overbridge between the station and the depot are 5-10 mins from the station on foot. For photos, you would want to know what's coming as there'll not be one perfect place to get everything. When you say a walk, east junction where to? A bridge for example?
There's also a chip shop close by.Yes, if you want to see things, the road overbridge by the depot entrance, or the road overbridge between the station and the depot are 5-10 mins from the station on foot. So to clarify, there's a bridge 5-10 min walk which will allow views into the depot?Yes, if you want to see things, the road overbridge by the depot entrance, or the road overbridge between the station and the depot are 5-10 mins from the station on foot. Yes, there are several paths in the system for stone trains to and from Rylstone, but not all of them get used. There's also a chip shop close by.
And a pub by the station.
What else could you possibly need?
It is worth noting that you do get a few freight trains through Leeds City Station. Not many, but worth keeping an eye out.
There are three bridges.. and you can see the depot - but not necessarily get a view of what is in the depot - a lot of fencing these days. Check Google Maps street view!So to clarify, there's a bridge 5-10 min walk which will allow views into the depot?
