Go visit the Schauinslandbahn cable car - longest in Germany I think?

The lines out to Titisee are scenic - though must admit have not gone further than Titisee.

You can go out to Breisach and then take short walk over the Rhine into France - pity the line no longer continues to Neuf-Breisach (a few km more), looks to be an interesting little town.

If you head out to one of the smaller stations outside Freiburg you can watch freight trains all day - I might have been lucky but they seem to be more frequent than passenger trains!

There's a tram system too and finally, you can just enjoy the town, but DO NOT fall into one of the gutters in the street - you'll have to marry a local girl according to tradition.

Both lines beyond are worth it, though I've not been right up to Seebrugg. The Donaueschingen line has quite a remote feel in places.

Seconded!
Neuf-Brisach is an octagonal grid-pattern fortified town (Vauban was here...), but tricky to get to from Breisach - which itself is lovely but touristy as the river cruises stop off there.
The S5 line round the North side of the Kaiserstuhl is nice, though possibly less interesting now it is part of the cross-Freiburg S-Bahn.
Freiburg itself is still on my list to visit properly.

With an Interrail pass i think im going to have to keep moving on the trains , it works out at £20 a day but these regional trains when added up are not cheaper

Did the loco-hauled Heckeneilzug from Freiburg to (?) Aulendorf about 20 years ago (all I’m certain of is that I didn’t go all the way to Munich). Very scenic - and fascinating being on a diesel-hauled & electric-banked train on the first stretch. Aiming to be back there in December.

Amsterdam St Pancras no longer an option for a while due to Amsterdam CS Refurbishment
