Hi I was travelling on a ticket from Wimbledon to Brighton and my ticket was marked ANY PERMITTED ROUTE and so I used the Gatwick Express to travel on the way back from Brighton to London Victoria to find the barriers rejected my ticket as the GX staff explained my ticket wasn’t valid? This is confusing to me as I was told onboard I could stop at Victoria to break my journey but the barrier rejected my ticket? Could I have some advice here?
My ticket had no restriction and did not say I could not go via London.

Staff were simply in the wrong and should not have denied you travel. Your journey was absolutely permitted, and was valid on the Gatwick Express from Victoria to Brighton or the other way around.

You'd almost certainly be able to get the same ticket issued alongside this itinerary from any accredited retailer, including the forum's ticketing site.

I assume you were travelling in accordance with the time and railcard restrictions?

Were you asked to pay any additional fare or were you just point-blank refused? Did you encounter any delay to your journey or miss a later connection?

If the latter, I'd complain to GTR's customer services and ask for compensation to reflect the delay to your journey and the inconvenience caused.

@username2023. Welcome to the forum. Just to double check, what was the ticket type that you used, the price paid and did this include any railcard discount?

Reckon that what @MrJeeves has just said is likely to be spot on.

Hi sorry for the late reply . I paid £29.40 from Wimbledon with a 16-25 railcard here. I hope this helps.

Hi I was forced to pay £2.80 as apparently my ticket was only any permitted up to Clapham, I don’t know why they forced me to pay for a fare where the GX does not stop? But I complained and got this refunded . GX staff clearly don’t know ticket restrictions as I was told yet again my ticket was in fact valid

Also if I was to purchase a ticket which has the itinerary I desire to go via London Victoria, would this ticket be valid through the GX barriers at Victoria?
