Hi, i know i messed up bad and was wondering if anyone can help me deal with the situation i’m in. So i was coming back from uni and stupidly decided to fare dodge the train. I got caught and decided to continue digging a hole by giving them a fake name, dob and address. I was wondering if the details on the ticket they gave me is enough to pay or do they send a letter to the fake address which contains the info i need to pay? Also i gave them all fake information aside from the fact i told him what uni i go to on body cam footage. Will they track that to my uni? I really don’t want them knowing about this whole ordeal.
Yes, you need to be clear as ppl are asking, about what you were given on the train as depending on what that is will bear on what happens next / what the railway do. Make sure any personal details or ref numbers on it are blanked out if you upload it. This is because it would be different if it was a Penalty Fares Notice compared with say a revenue enforcement report.
Was the fake name / address the name of someone you think or know actually exists?
Which Train companies train were you on when this happened (eg was it East Mids Railway or Cross Country for example)
I doubt they will go to the University you attend with a screen shot from the body cam and say 'we are looking for this person who committed a ticketing offence which is a crime in England please can you search all your student records to tell us who they really are as it turns out they gave a fake name and address to us'
However, I would strongly urge you to think about untangling this in the interests of honesty and avoiding thigs which may cause you career problems later on for a silly error of judgment during your student days - and don't worry, many of us have probably done that...
But if as mentioned above, if it's a Penalty Fare that can be paid anonymously which closes the matter then that would be a simple option likely to avoid things escalating.
There will be plenty of help for you here on best next steps.
