Anyone work for GB railfreight?

Good company to work for? Any pros and cons from moving TOC to FOC?

What is the role for? Its a freight company so Im guessing a Train Manager is not a Conductor/Guard but a Drivers Manager or something?

EDIT: Aah ok, found it on the website:
Position: Freight Train Manager (Driver)
Locations: Tonbridge, Southampton and London (within the M25)
Salary: £55,533 plus comprehensive benefits package
Hours: Working a shift based roster on a nominal 35 hours per week
Job reference: TD1

At GBRF Train Manager=Driver

Do take the following with a substantial dose of sodium chloride as always
Traction - 66/ED
Routes - basically the whole SWT/Southern (west of the BML) area; plus I think up to Westbury and Hither Green/Hoo Junction and Guildford - Tonbridge via Redhill and maybe up towards Willesden (Tonbridge and Willesden are the nearest GBRF depots to Southampton). Uncertain if linked but I would imagine higher links do the timetabled work.
Mostly engineering work (i.e. night and weekend-tastic); but they also do Eastern Docks - Mountfield gypsum as far as Hither Green/Tonbridge; a few daytime ballast runs; and sand trains to Wool on an ad-hoc basis. The RailVac was under their custody but I haven't seen that for a while so it may have moved on. Also the test train from time to time.
Morale at GBRF is generally good (I know a couple of ex-pax drivers have gone there and haven't looked back) and from what I can gather Southampton is no exception. They did used to book on at Eastleigh but there was a rumour of them moving to the Western Docks or thereabouts.

To be fair, I wouldn't move from a TOC to a FOC, you have so many conditions at a TOC and better represented from the union. The work can be boring at a TOC, but the start hours at a FOC,i.e, the 11 hours turns, the 23:59 starts, takes it toll.

Unless you're protected you will not get travel passes.

Under GBRF you work hard, I know at Temple Mills depot, most are looking to get out and i think one is moving from FX GB to Ipswich

You have jobs for the boys !!!!!!! at GB, not saying at all depot's.

I think if you wanted to move over to the freight, move to Freightliner Intermodal, rubbish money but much better conditions.

Don't forget...If these guys lose a contact, first in first out. This goes for the same for Heavy Haul.

I;m not sure I agree entirely with that but I guess it depends where you have come from and how long you have been at GBRF

Those that have been there from the start or for a few years have seen morale decline year on year.

Speaking from experience
Think long and hard before moving to a FOC. The romanticism of charging around the country, just you and your wagons is great but compared with the stark reality of facing redundancy and fighting for the scraps of TOC jobs with tens of other freight drivers, you'll wish you'd never left.
I was lucky and landed an absolute dream job when I left the freight but I know former colleagues who are facing the prospect of no job to go to and only 9 weeks pay to survive on.
