Does anyone have ghost stories to tell? I have always maintained a slight interest in hauntings/inexplicable happenings, and just want to know if anyone on here has any tales to share (local, personal and lesser-known only please, I think many already know about the Tower of London et al).

I'll get ya started:

Salmesbury Hall, Lancashire - ghost of 16th century woman known as 'Dorothy' known to look out of window to the adjacent A road.

Island Rd, St Ives, Cornwall - horse noises can be heard to those who listen carefully. A horse and master made the trek down the road to the beach daily, many, many years ago. Both are long dead. I experienced this myself on a ghost walk once!

Please discuss whether or not ghosts exist elsewhere, thanks.

Hey Matt, The road i live on is said to be haunted by Roman soldiers. Its named Redhill and the saying goes that when a battle occured the blood that was lost covered the hill....hence redhill.

Ive lived here seven years and the locals always say that the soldiers march down our road at night (its a B road, not a main road) but i can't say ive ever heard them...who knows, maybe one night eh??

Well that's obstructing a public highway at least.

I've been around Sheffield plenty of times, and I've got to say those Roman soldiers drop a lot of kebab boxes.

I used to live a few miles away from "Britains most haunted village", Pluckley. That place had more ghost stories than you knew what to do with. Us kids revelled in it, you can't beat a good fright tale as a youngster.

The only thing scarier than the ghosts at Pluckley are the residents. Ive been twice and both times found them quite erm.....grumpy! :D:D

And i live in a village on the outskirts of Sheff, our ghosts are posh....they dont do kebab boxes! ;);)

You've evidently just been to the nice bits of Sheffield then!

Seriously though, I do enjoy a good ghost story. Not the stuff that kids churn out, but a proper, good one like The Signalman for instance.

Indeed. Something tells me that Sting's childhood home was also reputedly haunted by Roman soldiers...

Once featured in an episode of Top Gear I believe.

Waterstones in Guildford is another haunted location that has just come to mind, as is the old Woolworths in St Ives, Cornwall. Blackburn must be the largest town in Britain where absoltely nothing has ever happened by way of paranormal activity...

Ironic, seeing as the place always seems to be dead.

There was a good old "grey lady" story about a road that led to a town I lived in some years ago. The road delved into a small wood/copse, and around an s-bend. On the apex of the first bend was a road leading to an old house in the woods, and it was claimed a former resident, a lady, haunted the curve. She would apparently dash in front of drivers, forcing them to swerve and crash. A delightful romp. The area does have a certain "atmostphere" to it though, very dark and quiet. A good setting for a ghost story.

I live near pleasley vale mills. Featured on the TV show most haunted. Ive been around there for hours helping my dad isntall the fre extinguishers. I Havent seen any ghosts.

In Mill Two you get a strange feeling in the generator room (its an old watermill, so they make a little hydroelectric power) But i put that down to all the electricity and spinning shafts. the rest of mill two is used as a warehouse mainly with a spiral-ish staircase. Sometimes If feels a bit wierd when you go down there, and past the One floor that is completely empty. (as its used by a local youth club as an archery range, and various other activities)

In Mill one, there is an old lift with manual doors, Sometimes you get nervous in there, However Methinks its because its an old lift, not ghosts.

Mill Three Is all modern and feels completely safe. I think it has a Big pharmecutical contractor as its main tennant.

I havent been for a while. so some of the details may bo wrong there. (I think there are some workshops and offices in either 1 or 2, Well there are definately some in one, but I cant remember if there are in two.

Overall. not haunted

One which I think is relatively well-known is the Wakefield Kirkgate one - that the subway is said to be haunted by a lady in Victorian dress.

Another one was of a hotel that was said to be haunted, though I can't remember which. It was one which was taken over a couple of years ago by the company I did my work placement with and one of my colleagues went to install the IT equipment there, during the course of which, they had to stay the night. They reported some strange goings on with the phones ringing in the rooms from reception when there was only them in the building!
