Hi all. I'm wanting to travel Glasgow Central-Carlisle via Dumfries on Scotrail in order to experience that line. I appreciate it's not the fastest or most logical route between the two stations.

However, is there a cheaper 'Scotrail only' fare for this route, or any other ways of making it cheaper than travelling down the WCML?

I have a 16-25 railcard.

Depending on your date and time of travel, Advance fares can be had from £3.30 inclusive of your discount.

If you wish to have flexibility, a £13.55 Off Peak Return 'via Dumfries' (valid after 0915) would do the job. You could travel out one way and back the other (or v.v.) by paying an excess of half the difference to the 'Any Permitted' Off Peak Return at £16.25, so £1.35.

Thank you gentlemen, I've bought an anytime single via Dumfries with my railcard for £12.60.
