Hi, I can’t believe how hard it is to find an answer to this question on the GA app and website.

Does anyone know if I can use my season ticket for a shorter journey than what I’ve paid for? For example if there are 3 stations A, B and C, and I have a season ticket to travel between A and C. Am I allowed to travel from A to B and back again, or would I need to buy another ticket altogether??

Thanks

Yes. (As in, yes you can use your season ticket for a shorter journey, to be clear.)
Your season ticket is valid for unlimited travel between its end points including between intermediate stations.
You do not need to buy a separate ticket.
If you tell us its end points we can advise on routes over which is valid, which may be multiple routes, but without any more information we can’t know.

It is in the National Rail conditions of travel; section 36.2 gives explicit confirmation that this is OK.

@sphx1. For example, if your season ticket was Ipswich to Colchester, you could use it to travel between Ipswich and Manningtree and then back to Ipswich again, without actually going to Colchester.

(Likely to work out cheaper just buying an Ipswich to Manningtree season ticket, if that's the more usual regular journey, and then day tickets from Manningtree to Colchester, if you're actually only ever occasionally going to Colchester).

Thanks all. I want to go from Chelmsford to Stratford , instead of Chelmsford to Liverpool Street. So I should be OK then

Yes, you are OK.
You can use your ticket any time between any pair of stations in either direction on the line between Chelmsford and Liverpool Street, including Stratford.
Gidea Park to Shenfield, for example, would be fine.
