Good morning,
Is there a complete list anywhere of how many GWR HST sets have been withdrawn, what the diagrams are, and how long they’re expected to stay before ultimate withdrawal?

I believe there are only 3 sets left now. Not sure on the diagrams, or how long left. I thought they were meant to be going by December 24th.

May timetable change is the current likely date. I believe there are 3 diagrams but more sets as they balance remaining working hours.

As the lease for the 175s is not yet signed and crew training is yet to begin, I would suggest that May is optimistic. December would seem more likely!

As stated, there are generally three castle sets in operation and are rotated based on engine mileage and general maintenance. As for diagrams, there are generally three down services in the morning from Plymouth (2C11, 2C65 and 2C68), with some flexibility for deputising on other local services, usually on the Newquay line vice 150/2 operation.

Afternoon up services follow the same trend, with 2P15, 2P16 and 2P17 forming the first wave of return diagrams as part of the shuttle service they provide - with most castle services between Plymouth and Penzance curtailing by about 18:00. There is generally one up evening service diagrammed for castle operation to Exeter St David’s also.

A good point of reference is the WNXX forum, a contributor reports the daily diagrams which include power cars and coaches in each of the sets

If you choose to register for the forum you will find the details in - Traction & Rolling Stock - Traction - GW HST GTis

I thought the lease for the 175s was signed in November 2024, and Great Western Railway have since taken 175002 and 175114 so far?

Your point about the withdrawal of the remaining HST / Castle sets likely not being until December 2025 probably still stands, however.

That's really helpful, thanks!
Do you know if there is still any booked work on Saturdays, I found one service (don't have it to hand right now) that said it was pathed as 'castle class HST' and would like to know if I can still expect a HST set on it or if it'll be replaced with something

If your on Facebook, the UK HST Enthusiast Group will also give you daily diagrams as well as formations / formation changes etc and won’t cost you a subscription.

Yes there are 3 working diagrams on a Saturday, Nil on Sundays.

The diagrams in post #6 are the daily diagrams as the diagrams are SX (Mon-Fri) so won’t change day to day.
