Heathrow Third Runway

But are you not suggesting that the short haul BA routes are moved to Gatwick, meaning that customers will no longer be effectively able to connect at Heathrow? Most connections at Heathrow are international, primarily from European destinations to the US.
Well, BA have the connection data and could analyse which European flights have the least yearly connections and move as much as possible of them across to Gatwick.
Or alternatively Virgin Atlantic could move most of their flights across, they've previously operated from Gatwick and the connections are just as good (obviously taking into the account the time penalty wide vs narrowbody runway occupancy).

Indeed they do. And pretty much all of their european flights connect into long haul. justblook at the codeshare flight numbers!

I know some passengers on every flight will connect.
Question is - which are the lowest?

It is often said that British Airways have historically used Terminal 3 for the routes with the fewest connections to their own routes, but of course that doesn’t mean no connections as it’s also claimed that routes with high number of connections to American Airlines services are also routed into T3.

Well it isn't Heathrow's responsibility to cater for connections onto non-British/EEA airlines.
Thank you for answering my question in detail though :)

Not directly third runway, but as that depends on usage, this is relevant

Heathrow had its busiest ever February (even if don't include leap year day), 5.8m passengers, was 5.2m last year and 5.5m in pre-pandemic 2019
Heathrow Airport recorded its busiest February for passenger numbers as demand for air travel exceeded pre-pandemic levels.
The west London airport said 5.8 million people travelled through its terminals last month.
It stated it achieved its highest February total even before the extra day due to this year being a leap year.

Was that in part due to the higher numbers of wide body flights and reduced narrow body ones. The return of more A380s and many B737/A320 equipments being replaced by B787s and A350s?

No, if anything it's long haul 767s and 747s replaced by short haul A320s i.e. to Cairo, Amman and Moscow until the invasion.
