Hi everyone, I'm an N Gauge modeller of some years and after building my own layouts, have decided that for my new one I would like to have professionally built.

I'm looking to have the baseboard built, along with track laid and wired for Analogue operation.

During the past 6 months I have emailed a track drawing, a comprehensive specification and a base board diagram....couldn't make it more easier to 12 companies / persons who purport to build Model layouts.

Of the 11...
  • 2 are not taking on any projects for at least 12 months
  • 3 have said their order book means that they couldn't deliver until between 10 - 14 months from order [Which I am ok with!]
  • 1 has been approached 4 times by email, 3 times by phone call and 3 actual visits to their work shop and despite being extremely interested, promised to get me a quote, I'm still waiting!!
  • 3 have said they'll get me a quote - still waiting.
  • 1 got back to me, but the price was well outside of the budget.
  • 2 haven't had the courtesy to get back to me?
Has anyone else had this problem?

I'm will to spend serious money, its all designed in detail, yet nothing? I'm willing to wait, so cant understand the issue?

I'd welcome anyone's thoughts or hear from someone who professionally builds as a business who'd be interested in providing me with a quote please.

Thanks in anticipation.

Sounds an interesting venture. Have you also posted your ask on RM Web? Also, have you approached your local model railway society - they might be able to put you in contact with potential providers.

I would definitely agree with posting the question on Rmweb. Or at least having a look through to see if there’s any layout builders on there that you haven’t spoken to yet @Marmaduke?
