Hi!

Out of curiosity and if it’s just about the money, which TOC is the highest paying in the Uk?

Thank you

Eurostar is still the highest. LNER second, ARL and Crossrail will be getting close to them on their current deals.

Yeah SWR are on 70k+ counter in their guaranteed free days throughout the year and they’re on a fair bit more as well.

You might want to specify which role or should we assume driver?

Eurostar is still the highest. LNER second, ARL and Crossrail will be getting close to them on their current deals.

And of course TfW will be right up there (although not strictly speaking a TOC) if their proposed deal gets agreed.

Oh yep! Sorry I meant to specify the driver role:)

I’m guessing once the pay deals for the relevant Companies are all done this would change..

If its a question of non-driving roles, I do find some TOC's are slightly better than others. For example, Avanti station staff are on higher salaries than their counterparts at Northern.

The figures don’t include London weighting (where paid), and other odds and ends like committed Sundays, but seem broadly accurate for the basics.

Southeastern is the highest paying toc iirc

Wink

What they get is shocking for the intensity of their work, the lack of Ts and Cs, and in such an expensive part or the country.

GTR (TL/GN) isn't far off if you take account of committed Sundays and if you add booked Sundays it is well into the 70's but then I guess it's not comparing apples with apples as you're then working more like a 4.5 day average week.

What I'd add though is that often the high pay has come at the expense of better terms and conditions and things like DOO which can make the job less pleasant. Self dispatching 100 times a day on a double Sutton loop is harder work than if a conductor was present.

Chiltern for example isn't a high pay operation but people seem to only have nice things to say about the work environment.

Massive disparity between the highest and lowest.

GA, Southeastern and Northern are poorly paid for the intensity of work.

EMR and TPE are a good 10k from where they should be.

Would you rather do intercity or (guarded) stopping work or freight for £70k?

Id rather be at a place that treats its staff well, good conditions, well thought out diagrams and fair pay awards. The days of intercity work necessarily being the best place to go are well truly over. Literally anything goes these days and you’ll see moves from Intercity to Metro, Metro to Intercity, Metro-Metro, Intercity Intercity, Freight into any of the above too. It’s absolutely anything goes compared to what it used to be like.
