How could ID cards be checked when wearing masks during Covid-19 pandemic?

I know this is a bit tangential but photo. identity cards have to be shown with staff travel cards, and passes have the photo on, obviously to stop fraudulent use. I realise that, at the moment, there's no ticket inspection but, if this were to be reintroduced while masks are still mandatory how would that work? (it's rhetoric, I don't expect anyone to know!).

I think you'd have to be given the benefit of any doubt.

(Ticket inspections do take place at stations)

Transparent masks? You'd look a bit weird, mind...

Reasonable excuse
4. For the purposes of regulation 3(1), the circumstances in which a person (“P”) has a reasonable excuse include those where—

.
.
(g)a relevant person requests that P remove their face covering.

The complication comes from the fact that "relevant persons" who are employed by the railway (but not TfL which is mentioned separately) have to be authorised specifically by the operator for the purpose of this regulation.

What a self-defeating thing to do. Quoting from the government's page with advice about face coverings

It is important to use face coverings properly and wash your hands before putting them on and taking them off.

Presumably, the relevant persons requesting you to remove the mask will be able to provide hand sanitiser, or perhaps escort you to the nearest bathroom so that you can wash your hands..

Masks can quite easily be removed without touching either the front of the mask or your face. All you need to do is touch the ear straps and pull then off one ear.
