Hi everyone,

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

I am writing because I was stopped with a wrong ticket by a WMR inspector and interviewed under caution. I just want to to know how long does it take normally for them to get in touch via post.

Thank you!

Thank you, that is very helpful. Yes it is the first time but it was a lengthy interview with everything recorded.

Welcome to the forum!

It can take several weeks before you receive a letter. WMR deal with lots of these cases and your case will be in a list but will get to the top eventually.

Thank you! I will keep updating and ask for advice when the letter comes.

I'd like to presume as you were only interviewed this was most likely your first time being caught.
"Only interviewed" as opposed to what exactly?
Anyone else having trouble following the logic of this sentence? :s

Good afternoon,

I have the following letter from the prosecution team for WMR for having an invalid tocket. I need advice on how best to provide a response.

Also is it necessary to give response on the reverse of the letter? Or can I do it on a separate paper.

Please can you provide further details such as route, ticket type, fare paid, was a railcard discount claimed, what happened on the day you were found not to have a valid ticket etc so we can give advice tailored to your situation? Thank you.

Did anything happen for them to write this to you?
If so, we need to know the details.

So I was travelling from Longbridge (Birmingham) to Birmingham New Street but I purchased an invalid ticket from Five Ways to Birmingham New Street. It was a big mistake and I will make sure it never happens again.

When I was asked about my ticket I was honest with the interviewer and I told him that I was coming from Longbridge but I bought a ticket from Five Ways.

He took my details and told me to expect a letter from the prosecution team.

One thing you need to consider is how often you have done this, and will the investigation into your offence find many more such tickets on your online account.

If you are cooperative, honest and contrite you should be offered an out of court settlement, but I am afraid it will cost you a lot more than the value of the fare avoided. In addition to the ticket cost, an admin fee, typically around £150 will be added, to cover their costs.

I have drafted the following response. Is it good enough any help is highly welcomed.

———————
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to you in response to the letter I received dated xxx regarding an incident on the West Midlands Train Network.

On xxx , I was travelling from Longbridge to Birmingham New Street when I was asked to show my ticket by an officer. I only had a ticket from Five Ways to Birmingham New Street.

I am sincerely sorry for what I have done and feel very ashamed for my actions. I understand the severity of my actions and how this might affect your company.

I can only apologise for the time and cost of investigating the matter. I would be very grateful if you would give me the opportunity to pay the outstanding fares and your administrative costs in order to settle the matter without the need for legal action.

Since the incident, I have bought all tickets in advance , and now I have purchased a “Flexi Ticket” for my regular commute.

Once again, I am extremely sorry for my actions and any inconvenience caused. I greatly appreciate your understanding and consideration.

I think that’s an excellent letter, though I’d maybe drop the last sentence, as it could be considered a little presumptuous. Don’t forget to include the reference, which you’ve presumably left out here deliberately, and if posting then send it “signed for” to get proof of delivery.

Thank you all, the matter was settled quickly out of court. I paid £175 on admin costs and £4.40 for the unpaid amount of the ticket.

It is definitely not happening again.
