Hi all, planning to travel Glasgow to Euston next week and see the potential for trains to be cancelled looking at previous performance.

I'll book standard premium.

If my train is cancelled and the next train's standard premium is full what's the likelihood I'll be allowed to it in first class? obviously not expecting any food / service, just a seat.

as always, thanks for any help I am given.

You wouldn’t be entitled to take a seat in Fist Class without permission.

If the train you were due to travel on is cancelled you would be able to claim delay repay compensation.

Thank you - and any likely refund for the “premium” component of the ticket?
If you weren’t able to get a standard premium seat, although it isn’t written anywhere, I would very much expect you to get a refund on the difference.

You would have a case under the Consumer Rights Act (Service paid for not provided), and also arguably a case under clause 31 of the NRCoT, which is about first class but I would argue should be applied to Standard Premium equally.

thank you very much indeed everyone. looking at past performance on recenttraintimes.co.uk the train I was getting has been a little flakey (1038 from Glasgow) getting cancelled so booked an hour earlier and hopefully won't have a problem. not to bothered about being a bit late - I just want to sit in the booked seats :).

I'm not on here often but information is always fantastic when I am. hoping to retire at Christmas so I'll be using the trains to fill a lot more of my free time.

Does Standard Premium have high loadings these days?

Boarding from Glasgow I'd say there is almost no chance you won't be able to find an unreserved SP seat and presumably if the previous train was cancelled you'd be there nice and early to board as soon as it is available.
