Two questions - for ages now there has been what looks like a FGW 165 in the shed at the London end - does anyone know what it's doing there? Also yesterday there was a shiny, what I assume to be a Southeastern 377 in (white body and pale blue doors. Is it usual for these untits to come to Ilford or was that something else too?

Actually a 375/6 has visited Ilford recently but I'm not sure of the details. I'm sure someone else will know though!

Sorry may have meant a 375... It had SE light blue doors but no other markings whatsoever.

FGW send the Turbo fleet to Ilford for Tyre Turning. 166202 is down there at the moment (or due back imminently)

The sheds at the London end of the depot and beside the running lines are A and B Shop and the domain of Bombardier Transportation. All sorts of weird and wonderful stuff turns up there from time to time for overhaul, refurbishment or repainting. Cl165s are not at all unusual, nor SET Electrostars These are totally separate from Greater Anglia's operations there which cover the yards and the New Shed at the country end of the depot.

I'm not sure about the wheel lathe, but I'm not sure that it belongs to Bombardier. All I have ever seen in there is GA stock, c2c Cl357s and intermodal wagons.

yeah bombardier operate the WL, there is sometimes different units in there, but I guess ones from far away use more local lathes, hence theres usually only C2C,GA or FL wagons in there. There's a SE train in B shop getting tarted up, and a selection normally of Chiltern and FGW diesels in A shop. GA staff do all the shunting with their 08 engine as required by Bombardier of units in/out/about A and B shop, the WL and spray booth.
