Is Warrington Bank Quay (WBQ) or Acton bridge (ACB) the best place to see freight near Runcorn East (RUE) (My Local)?

I am very dedicated to spotting trains but mainly freight trains.

Which station is worth the price and has a high frequency for freight since I am planning a trip soon

Could I suggest a look at RealTimeTrains (detailed mode) for a couple of recent days to see which of the many possible trains actually ran?

Acton Bridge will get you all the Liverpool traffic, Bank Quay gets you trains from the Chester direction but you will miss anything that goes into Walton Old Junction (unless that is visible from the platform?). So more at ACB, but reports suggest there is/was a local resident who might be annoyed by your presence!

The planned dates are for the 3rd of December and Realtime has no eta for the freight at the moment.

I've also heard about the Karen of Acton bridge lol the last time we went she wasn't there.

Of course not, Only the WTT. But, as I suggested, checking last Saturday (and next, on or after the day), will give you some idea for each location.

On a train...somewhere!
A quick check of TRUST for last Saturday shows 12x freights at Bank Quay and 21x freights at Acton Bridge that ran between 0600 and 2000 - a handful of (V)STPs in there so scope for a bit of variation, but Acton Bridge certainly looks the busier of the two.

Knowing both locations very well, the best location of the two is Acton Bridge during day time. During the week, you should get DRS intermodal's, DB liners, GBRf Biomass as well as depending on the day GBRf cement, NR train, DB e/stone hoppers to and from Warrington direction with mainly F/L binliners and liners, DB Cargo 'Aluminium' to and from Runcorn direction with the odd morning 'tanktainer' train to and from Folly Lane. Currently the DRS 'auto' is not operating to/from Garston. If you are visiting on a Saturday, traffic will not be much different with the odd exception.

As for traffic from the to / from Chester direction for WBQ, it really depends on what day and only likely to be a DB Cargo e/sand train or a GBRf stone train from Penmaenmawr. Nothing to miss at WOJn as the main train is the DB cargo e/stone train which you would see at Acton Bridge.

As for the so called report of local resident being annoyed by enthusiast's at Acton Bridge, just ignore it - it was mainly during the Covid period and simply do not park in front of the nearby houses, therefore avoid any issue. That same resident probably be annoyed by the passing trains!!:lol:
