Is the Southampton - West Cowes jet ferry accessible on the Southampton Airport > W Cowes return rail ticket, or do I have to use the slower ferry?

If you can, then I assume the bus from Southampton Central is timetabled to catch Red Jet?

Thanks

The fast “Red Jet” ferry and slower vehicle ferry have separate destinations on the island, so the separate through fare destination West Cowes defines use of the fast ferry, and East Cowes the vehicle ferry. This page on Red Funnel’s site explains the routes:
https://www.redfunnel.co.uk/en/isle-of-wight-ferry/route-map/
The Southampton terminals are physically separate as well.

IIRC the buses run more often than the ferries, half hourly now. Used to be more of them when they also provided free travel for shoppers as well, that’s now a paid feature.

Quaylink Bus Timetable here, it includes the Red Jet times:

Thanks!
Looking at the map it doesn't seem that far to walk from station to port, just make sure I go for the right quay then!

It’s not a bad walk at all. If you leave out the down side of the station, cross the dual carriageway and take the same route as many others round the back of the closed Toys r us store, then go with the crowd for a couple of hundred yards, but then keep on the road leaving the West Quay shopping centre on your left.

You’ll pass the bus stop for the Quay Link as you walk towards the first pedestrian crossing.

The two ferry terminals are very close, and you walk by the car ferry terminal to get to the Red Jet berth. As described above it is an easy flat walk, and if you follow the road that runs between John Lewis and Ikea, both clearly in your sight from the former Toys R Us car park, you can't really go wrong.

Thanks. Just wait for a decent price to appear on Flybe then I'll book a day trip from Manchester. It's also possible to get from the airport to Ryde (or even Sandown) and back via Portsmouth in the given hours. Arr SOU airport 1315; dep SOU airport 2035; leaves around 6 hours (+ 1hr airport security etc) airport and back.

Nice choice!
