investment in building infrastructure

from the BBC news website

A 150-year-old railway station building that has remained almost untouched for more than half a century is to be restored after being bought by a heritage railway.

Ashey Station on the Isle of Wight was built in 1875 for the opening of the Ryde to Newport Railway, but was sold in 1968 after the line closed.

Isle of Wight Steam Railway, which reopened the line in 1991, has acquired the buildings and neighbouring land.

That's interesting news, I visited Haven Street in the late eighties and have not been back to the island since.

Worth going to again - a lot has changed since your last visit.
Particularly if you are a fan of LMS Stanier "hooters" on Ivatt 2-6-2s !!!!
Done the round trip twice now, once with each of the "Mickey Mice" and it really is a lovely ride through typical scenery. The wooden bodied coaches are really beautiful and being full width compartments they give you a subtly different train ride.

It's nice to see a heritage railway buy back an original station, and the plans look very smart. I wonder if more lines will turn intermediate stations into holiday lets?

Whilst an IOW thread is live, I wonder if they will use the Thomas 80 event as an opportunity to fundraise for the E1?

We forever see comments about bringing an E2 back as a newbuild,(despite it being a poor performing loco in its service life) however, almost no talk on getting its close relative to running order again. If restored, not only would it be a decent tank engine that can go to the vast majority of preserved lines, the IOW has a good track record of hiring out locos for galas so it would be seen across the country if restored.

The E1 is under restoration. There’s a new boiler due imminently
