Hello, just wondering if any of you brighter people can advise what will work out cheaper in your opinions for our trip to Italy please. We will be taking the following journey.
Milan to Lecco in the lakes one day, returning 2 days later.
Milan to Turin, stay in Turin
Turin to Genoa, stay in Genoa
Working our way down the coast to La Spezia, further stay
La Spezia to Florence, with break in journey at Pisa
So in total around 6 journeys, any help or tips greatly appreciated

That doesn't look like expensive journeys, but you'll have to do the math yourself. See prices on trenitalia.com.

Yup, price it up on Trenitalia. Milan-Lecco just buy as you go.

Longer distances, if you use IC or Frecce prices are dynamic, can be cheap if you commit to a fixed train in advance.

On those distances you might choose to use regional trains, price does not vary. Buy on the day because the ticket is now fixed to a train (outside Lombardy) although you can change up to departure.

On regionals, the usual recommendation of Italia in Tour (59 for 5 days) may not be good because it excludes Lombardy and the Cinque Terre stretch. Advantage is not having to buy a ticket before you get on every train.

So price it up and see.
