What is the likelihood of their being rail strikes over the Christmas and New Year travel periods? I am looking at travelling on December 24th and returning on December 27th. Then travelling again on December 31st and returning on January 2nd.

I am tempted to just book National Express now and ditch the train so that I have the certainty of being able to travel without having to worry about strikes and letting family members down.

I reckon if anything it will be the period before Christmas when more passengers are on the move, but who knows. From the sounds of it even the staff find out on the same day as the public.

I think given my travel dates are
December 24
December 27
December 31 and
January 2
the probability of one (or more) of them being a strike day is exceptionally high.

Two of those are (transferred) public holidays - back in the day these were paid at an enhanced rate, if that is still so I wonder RMT if would choose those days?
