Liverpool Airport Bus (LJL) timetables

National Rail Enquiries (as well as several further websites) seems to be unaware of weekend timetables for the bus link between Liverpool Airport Bus (LJL) and Liverpool South Parkway (LPY). I wonder whether this is intentional and, if not, whether this could be rectified.

At the moment NRE would show me itineraries between the railway network and LJL for, say, 22 April but not for the 23rd or 24th, so for weekend I'd need to get the bus ticket separately.

The buses themselves seem to be running though (according to the Merseytravel journey planner).

P.S. Apologies if this is the wrong forum for this thread -- I thought about how to classify it correctly but didn't come up with anything better. To moderators: please don't hesitate to move as appropriate.

The presence of bus and ferry data in the rail timetable database is the responsibility of whichever TOC deals with the through ticketing.

Thank you! What would be a good way to find out which TOC it is?

I mentioned Merseytravel in the original post. I don't know if they're the company responsible for through ticketing. When I contacted them, they said they were unable to help.

NRE shows Merseyrail in the list of TOCs. The Merseyrail website doesn't have LJL on their network map though; and neither it's entered on their online "ticket calculator" (or "station finder", for that matter). Still, in the absence of other suspects, I have now contacted them through the web form.

I don't know which station you're searching from.

If you input Warrington to Liverpool Airport at www.brfares.com it shows that Northern is the fare setter. If you input Crewe to Liverpool Airport is shows West Midlands Trains.

Although, something seems strange about those results, it adds £2 to the Warrington to South Parkway single fare for the airport bus add-on but £3.30 for Crewe!

Thank you. Searching from Kenilworth and changing trains at Crewe.

The single bus fare on the 80A/86A bus is £2.30 if it helps. Cash and cards accepted

(Unless there has been a small rise like train fares which case is now £2.40)

The Spar shop at Liverpool Airport has been replaced by a WHSmith and there is no longer the facility to top up/purchase a Metro/Walrus card and put a Saveaway ticket on it because the WHSmith doesn't have PayPoint.

A friend found this out last week when he flew into Liverpool airport and wanted to get bus then train to Crosby. Instead of being able to buy a Saveaway like he could in the past when it was a Spar, he had to pay £2.30 on the bus to South Parkway where he could then get a Saveaway added onto his Metro Card so he could complete his journey on Merseyrail.

The interchange station for John Lennon Airport is Liverpool South Parkway. TOCs whose trains stop there are Merseyrail, Northern, East Midlands Trains, London and North Western Railway and Transport for Wales.
Bus services 80A and 86A run by Arriva Merseyside are frequent and there is a night service on the 86A.

Heads up though, im pretty sure the night service on the 86A didn't return after covid.

I often stay at the Crowne Plaza (original Liverpool Airport building) & find the 80A & 86A exceptionally good from South Parkway.

A single between Liverpool South Parkway and Liverpool Airport is £2, if you can buy one.

There used to be a Northern ticket machine at Liverpool Airport between arrivals and the bus stops. Has it been removed and not replaced?

Upto end of last year, the answer is it was not there nor replaced. To add to that, since WH Smith Ltd took over the Spar store (in arrivals lounge), they no longer sell any Saveaway etc tickets either as the staff have got to advise the nearest outlet for those type of tickets is Liverpool South Parkway Station! Go figure!

No inside. It was one of the old style Northern machines without the giant screens.
Came through arrivals on March 16 and did not note one. If one was installed there would be security issues for Northern staff who would have to go in to service it.

I've not seen one when I've gone through, although I've not really been looking. Most stuff at Liverpool Airport is still shut, though, so I'd not be surprised if the ticket machine was gone.

The airport seem to push the 500 shuttle bus to the city. A shame Arriva don't seem to be quire so bothered.

I am talking about the old style of machine and it's a number of years since I've used Liverpool airport. I'm presuming it was a card only machine as I think the cash & card ones were only installed at stations which were staffed for most of the day. Knutsford did have one of the old cash & card machine but the cash function was disabled after it was vandalised.

I had already answered your question, see post sixteen above. How did I know, I use to work there until I retired. Nothing been put in place since. I hope that helps.

I replied to that post because since your post there were three further posts along the lines of "There wasn't one there when I recently went through the airport".

The 500 no longer goes via Liverpool South Parkway Station, only the 80A and 86A do. There are also the 81A which which passes both Hunts Cross and Bootle Oriel Road Stations and 89 which passes Hunts Cross and Huyton Stations and terminates by St Helens Central.

There used to be a direct coach link to Manchester, it wasn't National Express or Megabus, and I can't find any mention of it on the airport's website. Does anyone recall, and did it cal at any rail stations (eg Warrington) on the way? If it's still running I would absolutely be interested, might be quicker than the queues at Manchester Airport for the rest of the year!

If it went from Chorlton St then it's a 5 min walk from Oxford Road, very handy.

It operated under the Terravision brand. They're an Italian franchise who focus on airport services. I think it was mainly targeted at the international students studying in Manchester. I'm pretty sure Sackville Street was the departure point and it shared a stop with the Oxford Road Link service. It would have run directly to the airport from Manchester.

There was a 700 service also that ran to Manchester operated by Arriva.

Thanks, Terravision...that's right. Sackville St is adjacent to Chorlton St for coaches, very convenient! Hope some day it returns, and I can't find anything about the 700 other than it started in 2005! Presume it's not running now?

I think over the summer a regular service from Manchester to Liverpool Airport would make money while MIA sorts itself out. That could take well into the autumn, and I'm so grateful not to be flying from there in July or August!

The Terravision coach ran fro. Shudehull Interchange to Liverpool Airport although did stop in Sackville Street. Their website states its "temporarily suspended" - see https://www.terravision.eu/airport_transfer/bus-liverpool-airport-manchester/
