My (Allerton resident) son was bemused to arrive at Euston on Saturday only to hear the imminent departure for Liverpool South Parkway (during the Lime Street closure) announced as for...........Allerton.

And despite the old name, Liverpool South Parkway is actually located in Garston rather than Allerton. West Allerton, on the other hand, is fairly central to the district and may as well drop the 'West' now that the rename of the neighbouring station happened over a decade ago.

You'd think that would have given them enough time to sort out the announcement. I'm guessing that Saturday (the first day of the Lime Street Closure) was the first day in history that Allerton's been announced as the destination of a London departure?

Still had plenty of time to get their hands on a recording of the correct announcement given a platform extension has been built at Liverpool South Parkway to accomodate the Pendolinos. I know it is a long name for a station but even if they had to record a new version specifically for the Euston Tannoy system, it doesn't take months to say the words 'Liverpool South Parkway' into a Microphone. Then again, it is the railway we are talking about. Someone probably did a BCR that showed changing the name would only bring £999 benefit to the country but cost £1000 and so refused to sign off on it.

I'm sure if they had asked nicely Leeds could have sent a copy of their "Liverpool South Parkway" that is not quite in the same tone as the rest of the destinations that are announced for the Liverpool via Warringtions..... ;)

If they needed the same accent couldn't they get a student part timer to do a cut and paste in Audacity? Liverpool Lime Street, South Hampstead, Queens Park , Wolverton, Leighton Buzzard

That's exactly how Aviavox does things :)

Could be used to add things to Phil Sayer autoannouncers as well.

In any case the Euston one is just ATOS Annie, and as that's used at all LM stations it should have that recording.

It seems that the trains reverse at an Allerton signal after Liverpool South Parkway, so that will be the reason.

Virgin Trains have form for calling Liverpool South Parkway by its former name. I occasionally - before the current engineering works - would buy Virgin advance fares to Liverpool South Parkway via Warrington BQ [EUS - WBQ - WAC - LPY].

The email received from Virgin a couple of days before travelling always said, 'Everything you need for your journey to Allerton' [as in attached image from April.

If I recall rightly the old main (big) station signs used to read Allerton for Garston & Woolton

At work it's been showing as 'L'pool Sth Pw Hl (Allerton)', so not entirely surprised some systems aren't right!
