I've recently accepted a position with LNER and just wondered what the pay dates are and if it's weekly or monthly? I'm trying to time my notice right so that bills are kept up to date.

Also I hear you spend a week in York for training, does anyone know what takes place and who you'll meet etc?

:D

Pay days on the railway are generally 4-weekly on a Friday so 13 pay dates per year.

4 weekly pay, next pay days are:
- 5 July
- 2 August
- 30 August
- 27 September

Week 1 in York is ‘Welcome to’, lots of onboarding, meet the directors, freshers fair, usual corporate welcome stuff. 2nd week will also be in York if it’s an onboard role, i.e., TM, CEL, CX Host, which is ‘Legendary Customer Experience (LCX)’ training, which will include Food Safety Level 2 Qualification for all of the previous named positions.

Thanks for the details
One of the talent members has said I need to be avaliable for 2 weeks of training. So I'm guessing 1 week York and then one in King's Cross, as I'm not onboard staff so won't need a 3nd week in York?

Second one could be KGX or York, depends on the position. Pretty sure some people who started with me who did their dispatch course had that in York, but I might be wrong, not certain on that. If you know your managers name, might be worth dropping them an email

I've also been provisionally offered a role in King's Cross, with a provisional start date of 5th August.
Still doing the onboarding. We may have possibly been on the same group interview!

Any current employees, what's it like working for LNER at King's Cross?
Is it busy and fast paced? Or does it vary, depending on the shift/day of the week?

Heff

Also, is working on the railways stressful, and detrimental to your sleep?

and another question, do customers/passengers just complain the whole time?
or are there customers who are grateful?!

Jumping on the thread here. I’m heading down to York on 19th August to do CX host training. Freshers fair? not had something that in a while hopefully loads of corporate branded freebies ? Lol.

I’m guessing there’s a fair bit of down time in evenings as we’re getting put up in hotels for the duration( EDB based). York ain’t too shabby for a pint

Also, with uniform is this issued out during the week or given before training? Heard that is sometimes even gets delivered to your house? Is this somewhat correct?

I've ordered my uniform and chose to have it delivered to the station, didn't want to miss the delivery by accident. I think you can change the delivery addresses when ordering??? But check that as I'm unsure!

Cheers bud. That bl***y dimensions website is shocking and won’t let me login. How long did you have to wait to order after doing medical etc. I’m just going to assume it’ll get delivered to station. I’m just wondering if we’ll have it for starting down in York, but I’ll be planning on taking nice clothes down anyway

are you both excited about starting your new job/career?
I'm very excited, can't wait to start. I'm overdue for a change and a career on the railway is always been a dream of mine. However I'm aware that there's going to be moments that make me question being on the railwayo_O:D. I know it can be tough at times.

Just on the 2nd questions, yes it can be very stressful as situations happen all the time and you can't plan for a lot of them. You'll have days where all seems to be going well and then it all goes horribly wrong! And sleep is something you will lose especially on early shifts. The first of your week is always the worst though and it's about getting into a routine after that so 7pm bed if you're going to be up at 3am for example.
Complain, shout, ask silly questions, be rude, be demanding, blame you for everything....yes. But you will also meet some lovely people every day.

Oh that's great! Will you be based at King's Cross as well or elsewhere?
Look forward to meeting you in September 8-):D

Thanks for this! Luckily I'm use to a 3am wake up, so I won't be too bad for the earliest shifts, I think I may prefer them as I'm guessing the finish will be around 2pm or so? But I think the shifts are rotational I believe?

Cheers you too, funnily enough I’ll be at almost the complete opposite end of the line… Aberdeen :) Welcome week sounds good though, seems there will be folk from all over!

I withdrew my application. Am I a tool?
People would give an arm and a leg!
Should I have been grateful for the perks on offer!
