In the 1980's I can remember traveling from Cleethorpes to Newark Northgate station were I would catch a connecting train to London Kings Cross. The train from Cleethorpes was a class 31/4 and hauled mark one corridor stock. At Newark Northgate the Class 31/4 would then be uncoupled and run round the coaching stock and couple back up to return to Cleethorpes.

I also travelled from Cleethorpes to Manchester Piccadilly behind a class 31/4 but I'm not sure about the coaching stock but at a guess it would have to have been mark 2 stock.

Does anyone happen to have any information about the 2 services like time tables and how often the services ran, spotters notes loco and coaching stock numbers, coach formations and photos.

These ran from May 1982 to May 1986. There were 5 trains each way plus an early morning Lincoln-Newark and late evening Newark-Lincoln.

I also travelled from Cleethorpes to Manchester Piccadilly behind a class 31/4 but I'm not sure about the coaching stock but at a guess it would have to have been mark 2 stock.
These started in May 1984 with 4 trains per day each way, though one only running from/to Sheffield. In May 1986 they started to run through to/from Liverpool, and they ended in May 1988.

The Manchester/Liverpool trains were part of the South Pennine circuit, mainly running to/from Hull, and were there to get the locomotives into and out of Immingham for maintenance.

Your memory of the rolling stock is spot on.

I think they started on 17th May 1982, 31418 was on first train out of Northgate Which Connected into 1A00 0615 York to Kings Cross, and out of the 1L41 0545 Kings Cross to York, 0725 arrival in from Kings Cross. They always Used to be a 31/4 and 4 coaches. Had many a trip on the run round. the 150s arrived in August 1985 and they took over later on, I’m not sure if that was from October 1985 or I just stopped recording them from then, which seems unlikely.

I do have 37153 on 2T16 1920 Cleethorpes to Newark and 2149 return on 7th Sept 1985.

The last ever scheduled through “Inter City” loco hauled train from Kings Cross was on 2nd October 1982 when 47526 worked 1D06 1708 from Kings Cross. The first HST on 1D06 was 43159/060 on 4th October 1982

I remember catching the HST's in the 1980's from Grimsby when I used to stay in London with my parents in the summer holidays. I dont think I ever caught a direct loco hauled train to London to my knowledge.

Thanks for the help
