I'm travelling down to London tomorrow for a rugby match at Twickenham on sSaturday staying in Feltham tomorrow and Saturday night. I've got an advance to get me to Euston so just need to get to Feltham from there then to Twickenham Saturday.

Am I right in thinking I should get a single on the tube Euston to Waterloo then an off peak return to Twickenham? I could then break my outbound journey at Feltham, stay overnight resume my journey to get to the rugby then break the return journey at Feltham again resuming Sunday to get back to Waterloo followed by another tube singleto get me back to eEuston.

Thoughts would be appreciated.

There is no off peak return between London Terminals and Twickenham or Feltham. As all of the places are within the London Zones, I'd imagine it'd be cheapest to do it all on Oyster:

Euston - Feltham (and v.v.) is £4.90 Off Peak or £7.20 Peak
Feltham - Twickenham (and v.v.) is £1.70 Off Peak or £2.10 Peak

Peak times are "Monday to Friday from 0630 to 0930 and from 1600 to 1900"

you should be able to judge it with the timings on how much it'll cost

Even if off-peak returns were available (as explained in the previous post they are not), that idea doesn't make any sense because you'd pass through Twickenham on the way to Feltham, not the other way round...

Clearly showing my ignorance at travel in London!

I've obviously made a mistake re: the order trains arrive at Feltham/Twickenham.

Being as I don't have an Oyster card am I right in thinking I can just buy a return from Euston to Feltham which will cover both the tube and the train? Will this be valid for outbound Friday night return Sunday morning?

I'll then just buy a Feltham->Twickenham return Saturday to get to and from the rugby.

You can pick up an Oyster card in a matter of a minute - £5 deposit which you can get back on leaving, or keep it - any money on it will be there indefinitely. Add £15 credit and you're away.

There are no period return tickets within London, and there's no ticket for Euston-Feltham. If you really don't want to use Oyster, buying a Z1-6 Travelcard (£8.90) is probably easiest option - unlimited travel within Zones 1-6 on trains, tubes, buses etc. Same again on Sunday. Total cost £17.80.

Oyster on the other hand would cost £10.90...

Ah right ok think I'm getting somewhere now!

All very confusing isn't it!

With regards to Oyster are there no forms to fill in etc... We'll be arriving into Euston 21:00 tonight (three of us) and would like to get to Feltham asap (obviously).

If we can grab the Oyster cards in the same amount of time it's take to buy the travel cards we'll do that is not travelcards it is.

Do they do a weekend travelcard?

Correct. Oyster cards can be purchased from the ticket office at Euston tube station, or from nearby machines.

Sorry, I don't understand the words in bold.

I think TQ meant ...if not, travelcards it is.

Oyster should be just as quick. You need the Underground ticket office, not the main Euston one, and they can be got from the small blue vending machines, or probably easier at the ticket office, where they will be able to load money onto it as well.

Correct!

So Euston ticket office, ask for three Oyster cards with £15 loaded on each total cost £60 then Sunday back to the ticket office to give them back and be returned with 3x£5 deposit and the remaining balance (£1.80 if I've calculated correctly).

I've tried to look around the web but just to be 100% sure will the Euston Underground ticket office be open at 9pm Friday night and around 3pm Sunday afternoon?

edit:
Again sorry to sound stupid but with regards Oyster I guess I "touch in" at Euston, "Touch out" at Waterloo to get out of the tube and onto the main station then "touch in" to get onto the platform and "touch out" again at Feltham. Does that make sense?

That's correct, and the two legs of the journey will automatically be combined. As a newbie to Oyster PAYG, the main thing you really need to remember is that you must touch in or out even if the ticket barriers are open when you pass through, this is more likely to be the case at Feltham in late evening or on a Sunday than the other stations, but it's definitely worth being aware that Oyster PAYG will only charge correctly if the overall sequence of touching in/out/in/out (that you have correctly worked out) is complete.

By the way, if you change onto South West Trains at Vauxhall rather than Waterloo you can save 40p. On Saturday only 2 out of the 6 trains per hour serving Feltham do not stop at Vauxhall, and you can simply change at Clapham Junction for them. On Sunday all 5 trains per hour stop at Vauxhall.

Take proof of address such as a bank statement or utility bill, as this may be required to get your Oysters refunded

…and there's no ticket for Euston-Feltham

There is actually, but it's not cheap, and admittedly still doesn't get around the issue of no period returns being available.

The Euston ticket office is open until 11:00pm Friday, and 11:30pm Sunday.

Indeed, it seems TfL insist on this even for completely unregistered/unprotected Oysters.
