Hi

As a regular commuter on London Midland Trains between Euston - Harrow/Bushey I would like to know , if possible how fast the trains go and what is the fastest speed achieved , on these stopping services to Tring .

If you have a smartphone Download a GPS speedo and see for yourself. I have one and it is quite accurate when compared to a proper GPS.

Depends if it's a 350 or a 319. 350s are much quicker and can achieve higher speeds between stations than 319s can.

Highest speeds reached in a 350 with non-agressive driving;
Speed in brackets are in opposite direction where different.

Euston - Harrow 90mph
Harrow - Bushey 93mph (100mph)
Bushey - Watford 65mph (70mph)
Watford - K. langley 80mph
K. Langley - Apsley 75mph
Apsley - Hemel 65 mph
Hemel - Berko 85mph
Berko - Tring 75mph. (90mph)

Don't Desiros have some sort of reflective material on the windows which blocks signals from GPS devices ?

That's Voyagers and Meridians - although the blocking doesn't apply to the vestibules.

GPS works fine in all variations of Desiros.

I use DigiHUD. Seems OK for clocking the 700s up the MML. Also gives max, trip ave., avg, time and compass bearing.

I'll second that. Works nicely on HS1 too.

I primarily got it for km/h speedo functionality when driving across the water, as my car's km/h figures are hard to read. The speed limit function for turning the display red is invaluable. And the author responds quickly to bug reports/suggestions.

Semi-related question - is the Northampton service that runs fast to Leighton Buzzard scheduled to run at 110mph while using the fast lines?

Unfortunately, Maps has stopped.

Yes. It's the xx:13 off Euston, a Birmingham service. Although it should be a 110mph unit in theory, /1's, /2's and /3's all turn up on it. I did the 0813 off Euston on Thursday, that was a 12 car formed of three /1's and it did acheive the full 110mph.

Going back to the original question, expanding slightly for the benefit of the of the OP.
Mark 1 units have blue seats and tables and are passed for 110mph. They were not built that way, they were upgraded a while ago which included new Pantographs and motors and numerous other bits and pieces.

Mark 2's have green seats and no tables and are passed only for 100mph (at the moment, rumours abound of them being made 110mph capable).

Mark 3's have green seats and tables and are passed for 110mph, and have been since new.

I've calibrated the speedo on my car so that I now know the errors at indicated limit speeds.
