Thanks for your long comment .. I've sent off an email, so I'll just wait and see
I sent the email on 22nd March and have heard nothing yet.

I know Easter will have caused a slight delay .. but should I just wait a few more days, or maybe write a follow-up email, or even send a letter ?

thanks !

they sometimes reply to me the next day, sometimes takes a month or so, usually about 2 weeks. Real variance in response times

New First Class Menu

PANCAKES, CRUMPETS & PIES: LNER LAUNCHES NEW ONBOARD MENUS

24/04/24
Pancakes, Crumpets & Pies: LNER Launches New Onboard Menus

Today, 24 April 2024, LNER is delighted to reveal its new First Class menus, which continue its long-held commitment to championing and celebrating local food and drink producers along its route.
LNER’s handpicked suppliers stretch from Caithness in the Scottish Highlands to London, with producers based in destinations across LNER’s almost one-thousand-mile route. From Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Durham, Northallerton, York, Harrogate, Leeds and Stevenage, the food and drink specialists have been selected for the quality of their produce, as well as their responsible approach to production.
All four of LNER’s First Class complimentary onboard menus are serving up new dishes. Dine, Dish, Deli and Brunch options offer customers a wide choice, with menus differing depending on which service they choose to travel on.
A tasty American style pancake stack will join the famous ‘Full LNER’ and ‘Full Veggie LNER’ breakfast menu for customers travelling on Dine services. The pancakes also feature in the new Dish and Brunch menu alongside firm favourites the bacon roll and plant-based sausage sandwich. Lighter options include Hot Buttery Crumpets, or Peach Melba Overnight Oats with peach, raspberries and blossom honey topped with gluten-free oats soaked in natural yoghurt. These two options can be found across all four menus.
For those travelling later in the day, among a selection of hot and cold dishes, there’s a new Homity Pie served with crisp salad on Dine, Dish and Brunch services. Filled with potato, leek and onion in a creamy sauce, the pie is topped with cheddar cheese and served with a crunchy green pea and bean salad and lemon vinaigrette dressing.
Customers enjoying LNER’s Dine services will also be able to opt for a fish dish of oven roasted cod, boulangère potatoes and green beans, with either a cheese plate or a lemon and elderflower dessert to finish.
From the 15th May, a variety of new sandwiches and drinks, including both vegan and gluten-free options, will also be introduced to LNER’s Café Bar and through the ‘Let’s Eat At Your Seat’ service.
Richard Judge, Head of Customer Experience at LNER, said: “We are always excited when we get to launch a new menu and we believe this is one of our best and most extensive yet. We are proud to work with local producers and suppliers across our route to create a truly wide range of delicious food and drink options onboard our trains, ensuring our customers get the very best experience and service when travelling with us

Nothing particularly adventurous there. A decent range of veggie/vegan choices, but what jumps off the page for me is that all the meat options seem to involve pork.
That seems an odd choice when so many don’t eat it for health/religious reasons.

“BBQ pork with spiced rice” on the dinner menu could easily have been some kind of chicken curry, which is pretty universally popular.

Pork is traditionally one of the cheaper meats…

They’ve just had a chicken dish on the last menu. Which wasn’t particularly great. Will be nice to not have chicken. Pleased the cheese plate is finally back.

Ha - yes, there is that. The dinner option at least includes a cod fillet, I see. Fairly small portion sizes judging by the calorie counts.

A broader range of people (including almost all pork eaters) will be able to eat chicken, or beef for that matter, than pork. I don’t object to pork for those who like it, but not for every meat option on the menu.

I had that on a trip from Edinburgh to Dundee in January and found it quite nice .. although it was quite a small serving

Nowhere near enough to a Pacer :(
I haven't looked through the full menu but is there a meat option on the dish or is it just the PI as the hot option? Not the time likely to be traveling anyway as the first advances seem to have shot to a new and alarmingly scary price

You can always try seatfrog if your traveling in standard, although they can go mad on them auctions.

I kinda want to try the breakfast options now, I've only done Avanti at breakfast time so far so it would be fun to try LNERs offerings even if it's just a cheeky crumpet I know I had enough of the Morrisons ones when they had that offer on

I shall miss the frittata at breakfast time! Was the closest thing to a decent breakfast on ‘dish’ trains to my mind.

Would like to add that Homity Pie with the pea salad and vinaigrette dressing is really good. One of the best dishes they’ve had in while. Recommend.

Doesn't look exciting for sure but there's some reasonable options on there I think alongside some of the perennial options! The pancake stack sounds interesting and better than just a bog standard bacon roll (obviously on Dine it would be the full LNER!). The other hot options also sound quite good in the afternoon/evening. And I've yet to have a bad piece of fish (when available considering @KGX's experience!) on LNER (and their forebears) so I'm hopeful that will be good as well.

Strikes me that two things that LNER really need to work on, as I've been whinging on about for donkeys years, is consistency in delivering the advertised service every time particularly for intermediate journeys and maybe up'ing the portion sizes just a smidge. Some of them are getting a little on the small size when you look at the calorie counts. That cod clocking in at around 360 calories suggests it's quite light for what should be a main meal. Whack an extra veg on there or a bit more potato and make it up closer to 500. No need to go for gut busting portions or anything dramatic but just a smidge more on some of those options would be good.

If they'd fix those then the product they offer in 1st class is very strong, well within the confines of what can be done with their poor hard product afforded by the rubbish Azuma interiors.
