Next Saturday I'm planning to a return trip from Dover Priory to Staines.

My ticketing plan is to buy a Charing Cross return which with the online discount is £10.65.
Then a Waterloo East to Staines return which is £6.40 (both with Network Railcard).

When selecting the 2nd ticket on Southeastern's it becomes a London Terminals ticket. Does this become a problem when exiting the gates between Waterloo East and Waterloo?

I suppose break of journey on the 1st ticket to get me from Waterloo East to Waterloo would be ok anyway?

___________
Edit
Can I just buy a return ticket to Waterloo East? I've got it in my head that because Waterloo East isn't an actual terminus that the ticket is dearer.

You could just buy to Waterloo East, yes. Though I suspect the Charing Cross ticket would be a "London Terminals" ticket anyway? Should make no difference to the fare.

I don't know what difference this makes to your reasoning, but Waterloo East is deemed a London Terminal even though it isn't a terminus.

There's special super off-peak tickets from the south-east coast to named London terminals, but there is no problem in breaking journey at Waterloo East.

I don't know what this is supposed to mean, but Waterloo East is part of London Terminals. A London Terminals ticket from Kent will allow you to travel as far as Charing Cross, amongst others, so Waterloo East is absolutely fine. If your ticket prints as London Charing Cross specifically then you can simply stop/start short. It's only a walk between Waterloo East and Waterloo so you don't need a ticket for that.
