Hi, this is a faint hope but when my son left the Avanti Birmingham to Euston train at Euston on1st november at about 5pm he left his laptop and hard drives on the floor under his seat, seat 5 coach B. We have tried all the lost property we can - 'Lost Property.org" MissingX, PakexUK and have had no joy. It is very difficult to speak to people by phone so I've been to Birmingham and also tried Euston and just nothing. The photos are of insects for work on migration studies and the laptop cases is distinctive made of felt and showing a fly in the mountains. It is a lesson in not keeping hard drives and laptop together, I know, but did anyone see it? Please?IMG_1355.jpeg

It will be at London Left Luggage Office operated by a third party. All Avanti trains are checked and cleaned on arrival. If it's not, it's probably gone.

A longshot suggestion from someone who is not an expert: the experts may say the opposite. Have you tried all the stations that Avanti trains terminate at in case it was overlooked at Euston and went out on a northbound train? On Avanti’s site (Google ‘ Avanti lost property ’) there are six such stations operated by Network Rail, including Euston, and three operated by other companies.

As said, I am not an expert and others may say differently.

If you contact Avanti on X (Twitter) with the train time and seat they may be able to get it checked for you. They have direct messages open and are good at replying (but may close over night).

If it was the 16:54 arrival (Birmingham New Street dep 15:21) this has had some very tight (15 minute) turn arounds so will probably not have had a thorough clean. It is currently at Preston waiting to go empty to Longsight depot (Manchester).

The item was left two weeks ago, not today, it would have been found by someone by now.

There should have been a walkthrough by staff at Euston if that was where it terminated, but it could be anywhere now if no one noticed. In most cases you'd hope if a customer found it they'd hand it to the guard.

I'd suggest that you get in touch with Avanti directly, as it should all be on CCTV if someone did pick it up later on, but they don't keep that forever. Maybe even see if you can find the VIP line email address if social media doesn't come back with anything.

Long shot - ping the ip address.

Sorry, that won't work.
Pretty much every pc out there connects to a router using DHCP, so the IP address is not static unless configured otherwise.

Sending it a ping command will get you a response if it is capable of doing so, nothing more.

Thanks anyway

That is a good idea, I have struggled to get in touch with Avanti, but will try again

I will do that now

First thing we tried but it is an old laptop and not connected to the internet.

We tried 'Find My" for Apple, but it is an old laptop and not connected to the internet when turned off - as it was
