I know this is probably a bit random but does anyone have any idea, do the multi storey car parks at Manchester Airport have lift access only from the car park levels to the airport terminals?

Someone I know was telling me about how when they flew from Manchester Airport with their family, they had immense difficulty getting from the car park to the airport terminal due to the fact that one of them was uncomfortable with using lifts. According to them there were no stairs available and they had to walk all the way round the car park.

I'm pretty sure I have seen stairs going to one of the car parks so I was a bit suprised by this suggestion. Does anyone have any idea, does it vary depending on which terminal building you are going to or is there more than one car park at Manchester Airport with one having lift access only and the other having stairs as an alternative?

Thanks for your help there.

I've never caught a flight from Manchester Airport but whilst waiting there for a National Express connection last year I ventured into one of the terminal buildings- I think Terminal 1. The thing that struck me was there seemed to be lift access only to the departures area of this terminal. Would this possibly be the area of the airport that my friend was referring to?

Looking at the map on the website, there are stairs at Terminal 1.
However, there don't seem to be any signs to tell you where they are - the signs all direct you to the lift.

(I've previously tried, but failed, to find the stairs in T1 while rushing from T3 to the station)

Go in to T1 through the main door, turn right, go past the Emirates Concierge, through the door, lift should be straight ahead of you.

OR, same again, go forward past Boots, turn left, through the doors, use any of the lifts on your right.

Interesting to hear that Terminal 1 does actually have stairs. Is it possible that they aren't well signposted in order to deter passengers with bulky luggage from attempting to use them? I know its not the same but I remember at Heathrow Airport T1, the escalators leading to/from the Heathrow Express platform and up to the departures level were not signposted. Instead there were signs instructing passengers to use the lifts to access the terminal building. My thoughts were that this had something to do with the fact that the majority of passengers would have heavy luggage and therefore the escalators would be unsuitable for them. Would this possibly be the same reason as to why only the lifts are pushed at Manchester Airport?

Any public place should have a green running man pointing you to the emergency exit (without using lifts). Unless, very unusually, these are alarmed you should be able to exit without problem ( and, legally, even if they are!)
