I'm about to start an annual MCard Zones 1-3 and am aware about the official exclusions for travel on LNER/XC/EMT (can't use these TOCs towards York, and have to buy from Wakefield, not Sandal, when using these TOCs heading south).

But are all the following OK with an MCard 1-3:
  • Leeds to Huddersfield (and beyond) on a non-stop service if I buy a ticket from Mirfield?
  • Leeds/Bradford to Halifax (and beyond) if I buy a ticket from Low Moor and the service does not call there?
  • Leeds/Bradford to Keighley (and beyond) if I buy a ticket from Crossflatts and the service does not call there?
  • Leeds to York/Selby (and beyond) on TPE and Northern if I buy a ticket from Micklefield and the service does not call there?

There is no need for the train to call anywhere.

Some staff may mistakenly think otherwise, as they may not be aware of the change from National Rail Conditions of Carriage (NRCoC) to the Conditions of Travel (NRCoT) a few years ago, and the rail industry doesn't always provide adequate training when it comes to fares and ticketing matters.

I had it a few days ago with TPE, combining a CountyCard (Manchester PTE ticket) and a season Greenfield to Leeds.

If they don't think it's valid, mention condition 14.2 of the National Rail Conditions of Travel (NRCoT), and quote:

If you are using a Season Ticket, daily Zonal Ticket, or another area based Ticket such as a concessionary pass, ranger or rover in conjunction with another Ticket and the last station at which one Ticket is valid and the first station that the other Ticket is valid are the same, then the train does not need to call at that station for your combination to be valid.

If all else fails, you will, unfortunately, have to pay up. If this does happen, come back to us and we'll help you with the wording to reclaim it from the relevant Train Operating Company (TOC)
