I used to live in Willesden, London, where I was born. I remember the old Metropolitan Line before the 1960s.
We used to go hiking on a Sunday in the summer; we used to catch a Bakerloo line train from Dollis Hill station changing at Wembley Park for the Metropolitan line to Rickmansworth, Great missenden and Chalfont & Latimer changing for Chesham.
I remember the old push & pull trains on that line. I also remember the change over from electric to steam at Rickmansworth; the fastest in the country.
I also remember the old Moor Park station, with the wooden platforms and gas lighting. Sometimes on the way back we caught the Great Central from Great Missenden to Harrow on the Hill, which used to stop at every other station.
I used to like the old brown carriages on the Met and I remember the Great Central expresses before they closed the main line beyond Aylesbury.
One Sunday we were waiting for the train home at Great Missenden; there was some activity going on the other platform. The Met train arrived and it appeared that the Sheffield express was following behind and it was late; they shunted the Met into the siding, so the Sheffield express could pass, then let the Met go to Aylesbury.
I can also remember the power station at Neasden. I didn't like the new a stock on the Met; i didn't find them very comfortable at fast speeds.
