Ouch, things must be bad if they are diverting via Carlisle and the WCMLIt appears 1W96 (1200 Kings Cross-Inverness) is being diverted via Carlisle according to LNER’s website:
“12:00 London Kings Cross to Inverness due 20:07 will be diverted between Newcastle and Edinburgh.
It will no longer call at Berwick-Upon-Tweed.
It has been previously delayed, is being further delayed between Newcastle and Edinburgh and is now expected to be 139 minutes late.
This is due to trespassers on the railway.”

Just for completeness, it's 1W16 these days.It appears 1W96 (1200 Kings Cross-Inverness) is being diverted via Carlisle according to LNER’s website:

It was going to go from plat 3, then it was realised that the crew to work it north were on one of the delayed services that were delayed at Morpeth, hence signaller moved it back to plat 2, so a slight hic cup on a challenging afternoon.Just as a postscript: services started leaving Newcastle northbound about 1640. I thought LNER handled the problems pretty well, they had plenty of staff on the platforms at Newcastle giving what help and information they could, though obviously they could only talk to a few people at a time. In contrast the public announcements were pretty unhelpful: there was no explanation of the line being closed, just an endless stream of announcements about individual services being cancelled.
A large group of LNER passengers finally got to Edinburgh on the Aberdeen train (1W20) which was announced in good time as leaving from platform 2. Then about 5 minutes before it was expected, we were told it would go from platform 3 (which was still occupied by a train returning to London), then we were told it would go from platform 2 after all, just as it rolled in. That platform 3 announcement must have been a mistake - it did rather detract from the feeling that everything was back under control!
