Hi,

I am just wondering if anyone has any information on the differences between the roles of Technical Officer and Senior Technical Officer. Is the sort of work completed similar? Do they spend similar amounts of time on-track against in the office?

I am just wondering which role I might like to apply to. Obviously the STO role is better, but conscious that my maintenance experience isn’t that much.

Thanks.

The difference would be experience and responsibility. It goes TO, STO and then PTO. They would all work together. So go out on track together and spend time in the office together. If you don't have much experience you more likely to be selected for a TO role rather than STO. But you never know

Thanks. That’s really helpful.

You don’t happen to know roughly how often they go on track and how often nights & weekends are?

All depends on the route, contract and local agreement they have within that specific depo. More than likely you would be doing a mixture. But some depots would you have a choice of days and nights but it just all depends on thier set up. In terms of going on track that would probably be daily but I think usually they would split there shift from going out on track to coming to the office to log data

Cheers. That’s been really helpful. I currently work for NR in engineering but am looking for a pivot towards maintenance, so just trying to understand my options.

Thanks.
