Hi all, just after a bit of advice please. I regularly travel on South Western railway between London Waterloo and Honiton. I have been getting various emails from trainline.com over recent months suggesting I apply for a railcard. I finally took the plunge today and after reading all the small print, I now have a £30.00 Network Railcard. However, I don't seem to be able to apply a discount to any journeys between Waterloo and Honiton, even if booking on the day - I travel at various times, could be Sunday morning, could be Friday afternoon, or an evening around 17:00. Am I missing something obvious here, or is this Network Railcard actually of no use to me? It seems the discount cannot be applied to advance single tickets? Any advice appreciated.

That's correct, the Network Railcard discount does not apply to advance singles.

Your Network Railcard WON'T apply to:

Season tickets, including Travelcard Season tickets
Advance tickets
First Class tickets
Journeys where the origin and/or destination is outside the Network Railcard area
Oyster pay as you go
Eurostar tickets
Special excursions or charter trains
Tickets for journeys wholly on London Underground and Docklands Light Railway
Bus links, including those to airports e.g. Railair Links
Port-to-port only tickets on Wightlink, Red Funnel (ferries or ‘Red Jet’) or Hovertravel services
Some train company special offers and promotional tickets (see offer or ticket terms & conditions details)

I'm having no issues getting booking websites to apply a Network Railcard discount to a Waterloo-Honiton journey on any Anytime or Off-Peak fare . Network Railcard discounts cannot be applied to an Advance ticket.

I use this railcard on the line you refer to - it is valid for all fares except Advance tickets, which I rarely use, as I am not a precise planner

As has been pointed out its not valid on Advance, however, now an Anytime/Off-Peak with the NSE discount may be cheaper than the Advance fare, also gives you more flexibility.

I don't know how you are buying your ticket. Might be a smartphone app, could be bought at the station on the day, or using the SWR online website.
As a frequent traveller between Waterloo and Exeter using a Senior railcard,on the SWR website, the discount is applied.

The OP has a Network Railcard, not a Senior Railcard. A Network Railcard is not valid with Advance fares, a Senior railcard is.
